Here's the book that I've been talking about. It's from Dover and very inexpensive. Here's the link:
Here she is in all her glory...a little cross eyed and raw, but she's mine! Things I learned:
1. Acrylics take a long time to dry on polymer clay
2. Spray varnish takes a long time to dry on polymer clay.
3. The face sure is easy to mess up when you're working that little!
4. A darning needle works pretty well sculpting and smoothing the clay.
In this picture she's fully assembled and painted. She needs fig leaves.
Here she has drawers. The pattern for her clothes is behind her. She's going to be in Victorian dress because my dollhouse will be Victorian. Did Victorian people have koi ponds?
Well..If I had put the upper arms where they belonged..On TOP of the lower arms instead of thinking that they were thighs..and the thighs where they belonged instead of where the upper arms go..I would have been a MUCH happier camper! LOL! Her legs were short and skinny because I put the arms there instead of the legs! LOL!
That much said, she's got a new body that has all the proper pieces and just needs to be glued together now. :)
And the main (and most important) part of my post:
He's 5 weeks old. :)
I've always wanted a dollhouse. I found a book by Dover that gives the plans on how to make a dollhouse from one piece of plywood. So I took it to Donn, my resident plywood expert. Donn and I are now cutting out a dollhouse. THEN Ruth introduces me to a book by Sue Heaser about how to make dollhouse dolls in Polymer clay. I bought that book on Amazon.com used, an old library copy. Then I bought a used copy of her other book on how to make dollhouse furniture and stuffs out of polymer clay. Michaels was having a 99cent sale so I went and bought several different kinds of flesh-colored polymer clay. 3 doll heads and two doll bodies later Fimo wins!
What drives me nuts is that I keep making mistakes. And after its been baked, there ain't nothing I can do to fix it!
Pictures later. :) She has, according to my 16 year old son, a pornographic body. "The ones inthe book didn't have nipples, MOM!" And she's got little skinny legs. Her arms look good, though. Her body is too long, legs too skinny, she's got a monkey face..maybe Donn's right, I should have started with polymer Onions for the kitchen?
Becky, blogger extraordinaire and new friend, has given me the Arte y Pico award. According to Becky's blog, "The "Arte y Pico" award was created/made to be given out to bloggers who inspire others with their creative energy and their works, whether it be writing, artwork or more. When one receives this award it is considered a "special honor". Once you receive this award, you are to pass it on to at least 5 others. For more info on this wonderful award, where it originated, please visit Arte y pico at their blog."
Becky is inspired by my work. I was speechless and very flattered. My dolls consume me..but I haven't thought of them as very special! There are much more detailed and beautiful dolls out there than mine. :)
So thank you, Becky! (Becky is Auntiebunny, btw. Her work is wonderful too!) You've made my day! I will think of the 5 bloggers that inspire me and pass this on. :)
