Growing up

I must finally be growing up. My children are making huge steps towards adulthood, or in Melissa's case a huge adult step. Ian is testing for his driver's license today. I almost wish he wouldn't pass so I can hold onto my little boy a little longer. :)

We could certainly slow the aging process down if it had to work its way through Congress.

Neil (my boss) came up to me yesterday and told me that my African violets look like I just bought them. I think that was a compliment. I know no one else is as excited about my African Violets as I am, but then no one knows how hard I've worked to get them to bloom and then they DON'T!! I saw a gorgeous white with purple edge African Violet on Sunday and of course I didn't have any money. I get paid Friday. :)

And I put a dress on the dollhouse doll last night. Sure wasn't easy. Now I need to find tiny decorations. One of the things I need is a tiny flower for her bodice. Pics later.

Oh! And I get to see my boy this weekend! (Gavin, not Donn) Melissa and I are going to shop for fabric for the quilt she wants for her bed, then I'm going to watch Gavin while Mel and Ryan (my son-in-law) (egads) go out.

Back to work

I had an exciting weekend. After the big trip to Lynnwood and the wedding we went back to Maple Ridge. We saw Indiana Jones on Saturday and Sunday we went to a doll & miniature show. Such fun! And back to work today. It's quiet, really nice. I'm so proud of my african violets. :)

Friday = Wedding Day

It was pretty nice. I didn't know what to expect from a Justice of the Peace, but the man put on a very nice ceremony, very touching and very appropriate. We were late due to an untied necktie and the doors were locked. I thought Mel was going to have an aneurism. :) But they are married!!

African Violet

I'm so proud of my African Violet. :) I got it to bloom and it's beautiful! I have 2 in the east window at work. The one pictured is in full bloom, the second one has buds! African Violets need to be babied to get them to bloom. I fed these guys with fertilizer sticks and use room temp water that has sat out for a couple of days and water them from the bottom. The east window is perfect for them. They need to be damp and in an east window.

Tiny Tiny Baby

She's supposed to be a doll for a doll house doll, so she's really tiny. The doll she's sitting on is 5 1/2", maybe she's 1". That means that if she was real she'd be 12" tall. I made her with sculpy translucent polymer clay and a pinch of brown. She's supposed to look like she's made of muslin. :) But I think I've found a way to make doll skin look "real" instead! This translucent clay is weird. I bought it so that I could make a tiffany lamp. I want to draw the lamp on an index card, then sculpt the tiffany lamp using the card. Bake it, with the card on it, then lift the lamp off the card when it dries.

This doll house is distracting me from real life, which is not a bad thing. It keeps me from being depressed and gives me something to look forward to and to dream about. I'm really having fun with it.
